The shelves were sparse
Christmas decoration

used and worn, 
he trudged the aisles
in search

of a bargain,

his long white hair in curls 
under a dirty grey baseball cap,

in his cart a plastic angel
with chipped paint and a lightened 

sign

 “ Rejoice.”
