The Trunk (1976)
The old Mennonite life is no longer,
destroyed through revolution and pain,
another historic diaspora,
on ideological whim.
Recorded,
only on glass negatives, a vibrant life long dead,
the seed planted in a new land with old names-
like Steinbach.
Plate number 8- Henry Dick with his troika.
Productive lives-plate 12- Johann Rempel in his factory in Millerowo
probably burnt to the ground too.
A lost life on, glass plates, lying in an old dark trunk
